How Bad Did I Want To Run An Ultramarathon?

How bad did I want it?

How bad did I want it? This ultramarathon run wasn’t just a fun goal, this was a chance to reclaim the mobility I lost in my younger years. This mobility loss came with devastating consequences. I felt alone, unable, less than you. I never fully recovered.

The run conditions weren’t ideal. Between mid January and now, I had 3 weeks of injury-free training. My right limb changed and I developed a pressure sore that was so painful that I couldn’t even gently graze the sore. Thankfully, my CPO worked his magic and got me moving, but I was not even close to peak form. For the three nights prior to my run, I slept a total of 7 hours altogether (busy, stressful week). On run day, the weather was really hot, full sun exposure, terrain less ideal, and an injury to my heel at mile 18 made everything feel impossible.
If I waited for any of the conditions above to improve, then I likely would’ve never finished. I cannot count on these conditions improving. I need to adapt and move forward.
I believe you can also reach those impossible goals you seek. Each person reading this post is powerfully adaptive and capable of navigating difficult conditions. I believe in you.
